The mass movement of the great migrants shall start at the beginning of the dry season from June and continue year after year searching for fresh, green pasture and water. The great migration of over two million wildebeest and other herds gets into Kenya at Masai Mara game reserve and stay there for three months only (i.e. August , September October), therefore the best time to visit Serengeti National Park is from December to February and from June to August to witness the migration.
ARRIVING TO TANZANIA
Upon your arrival, you will be met at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transfer to your hotel in Arusha.
DAY 1: ARUSHA TO LAKE MANYARA PARK 130 KM / 2 HRS:
After your breakfast at 08.30, drive from Arusha with your packed lunch to Lake Manyara for game viewing. At 1300 hrs take your lunch in the park picnic area, evening drive to your lodge/ campsite for dinner and overnight at Manyara.
DAY 2: MANYARA TO SERENGETI 190 KM / 3.5 – 4 HRS:
After breakfast at 0800 hrs, drive from Manyara with your packed lunch and game en route to the great Serengeti Plains via Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Today is the first day where you will witness the great migration takes place in Serengeti. The location of migration will depends on time of the year you visit.
After lunch, relax in the lodge/ campsite or proceed with your game drive around Seronera or trace the direction of the wildebeest migration.
DAY 3: SERENGETI CENTRAL AREA:
After breakfast leave with your lunch for game drive in the Serengeti Park acacia Savannah land in the central to the east region. You will be doing the game drive following the great migration in the Serengeti and enjoy tons of other wildlife including the big cats. dinner and overnight at the lodges in Serengeti.
DAY 4: SERENGETI SOUTHERN AREA
After breakfast take a packed lunch with you and continue with game viewing on Serengeti Park. The great migration can be seen on a long chain (approximately 40 Km) heading to the south western direction. Around 1230 or 1300, break for your lunch. After lunch, have a rest for one hr, then proceed with your game viewing following the move of the great migrants on the southwest of the park. Dinner and overnight at one of the lodges in Serengeti.
DAY 5: SERENGETI – NGORONGORO
After breakfast, disembark with your packed lunch for game drive en route to Ngorongoro Conservation Area. It is your option whether you pass by Oldupai Gorge (a historical site whereby the early man lived) or Masai Boma (if you are interested in African tradition and culture). After your lunch, arrive at the crater rim for your dinner and overnight at one of the Lodges.
DAY 6: NGORONGORO CRATER
After breakfast, descend into the crater floor with your lunchbox for game viewing, enjoy a full day game drive in the crater with a picnic lunch break in the Crater. The famous Ngorongoro Crater is full of wildlife with each species having their own territories. Late afternoon ascend the crater to Karatu for your dinner/ overnight at one of the lodges in Karatu.
DAY 7: TARANGIRE
This morning after breakfast, leave the lodge with your lunch box to Tarangire Park for game drive. Herds of elephants are very common in the park, along with the impressive Baobab trees. Evening drive to your lodge/ campsite for dinner / overnight at Tarangire.
DAY 8: TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK
After a leisurely breakfast in your lodge/ campsite, game drive until lunchtime. After lunch, continue with your rest until 1500 hr, then disembark for evening game viewing on Tarangire Park. 1700 hrs back to your lodge. Campsite for dinner/ overnight Tarangire.
DAY 9: TARANGIRE TO ARUSHA
After breakfast, leave Tarangire with your packed lunch to Arusha town. On your way, there are many curio shops you can buy souvenirs at. Our guides know the safest places where you can stop and shop!
DAY 10: ARUSHA – AIRPORT
After breakfast, relax at the lodge/ campsite or transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your flight back home.
